Well, he didn't "hack" anything. He used a hardware keylogger on access lab computers.

He didn't explore the network, review security, or anything else. He's not even as good as a script kiddie.

He deserves to get the book thrown at him.

Yeah, really. That's a "hack" like picking the lock on the server room and pulling out a hard disk is a hack.

Having met Runte a few times, I'm surprised this is the direction it went in. I get the impression she wasn't involved and the remnants of van Loon's regime made the decision.
