Round 1 to Dion
Not according to the press, mind you, many of whom hate him with a passion. Rather, according to an Ipsos poll of actual voters immediately after the debate.

Note, I can't find the original poll at the Ipsos site. However I assume Coyne isn't making it up.

Hopefully for the sake of avoiding a Harper majority Dion can repeat it in English.

And the sexism rears its ugly head.

"One in three (33%) who viewed the debate found Jack Layton to be the most visually attractive (down 7 points), followed by Gilles Duceppe (22%, up 2 points), Stephane Dion (19%, up 13 points), Stephen Harper (15%, down 5 points), and finally Elizabeth May (5%, unchanged). "

Why is it that a woman has to be a stunner before we can say we find her appearance pleasing? This is the real hurdle that needs to be cleared before there can be real equality in politics. Seeing as a political career starts at 40, and doesn't really get going until 50, Women will always be at a disadvantage.

However, there is a slight advantage to women when they get even older. A 70 year old woman is a common sense grandmother who is wise in the ways of the world. A 70 year old man is a doddering old fool.,

Given that Harper's potential majority was going to come from a Quebec landslide in the first place, it's not unreasonable to hope that this debate knocked majority chances sharply out of whack all on its own.
