Appliance question
Looks like the inner tub in my washer is now loose, so that when the washer is in the spin cycle you hear THUMP THUMP THUMP and the whole thing shakes. This I assume is not good for the washer. My question is, based on what people know about appliance repair costs vs. replacement costs, does it make more sense to get this repaired or to get it replaced? |

Radiohead / Guitar Hero 3
Just picked up the new Radiohead which is called "In Rainbows". For those who don't know it's available only as a digital download and you can choose how much you pay for it. I've played it through once so far and it sounds good enough, although I'll have to spend a bit more time with it. It reminds me a bit of Hail to the Thief in that it consolidates the band's earlier periods. Lots of good band moments on this one. The album is short by modern standards (about 40 minutes) and will be available in stores early next year. Also grabbed Guitar Hero 3 for the PS2. It's been out about a week on all next gen platforms as well as PS2. It's basically... well Guitar Hero 2 with new songs. Avid gamers will notice all the differences but that's what it comes down to. Some of the highlights for me include One (Metallica), Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden), Kool Thing (Sonic Youth), Welcome to the Jungle (GNR) and Cult of Personality (Living Colour). Also getting a healthy dose of alterna-metal stuff that all sounds like Nickelback to me... Disturbed, Slipknot, etc. etc. The neat thing is I'm getting to hear some newer or more obscure bands that I probably wouldn't have otherwise, since I don't listen to radio. Some of the songs I'm enjoying are When You Were Young (the Killers), Knights of Cydonia (Muse), Ruby (Kaiser Chiefs) and She Bangs the Drums (the Stone Roses, which is older but new for me). |

THE FINAL &@#$ING COUNTDOWN
I know some of my friends seek to have every recorded version of The Final Countdown in existence. Or so they claim. This should test their determination. |

Canadian Media Fun and Games
If Stephane Dion looks eager for an election, they will pile on top of him for forcing another election, not making parliament work, being politically tone deaf, etc. If he doesn't look eager for an election, they'll call him weak. |

Dick Cheney in 1992
This and similar videos have been getting a lot of play in the last few weeks, but this one is particularly interesting because it's a long, four-minute answer to the question as to why they didn't go after Saddam after the first Gulf War. http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/09/27/my-god-dick-cheney-was-right/What it does is erase the notion that the current situation in Iraq is simply due to incompetence. They knew, going in, what it was going to be like. They went in anyway. That's the difference between stupid and immoral. If you haven't seen this or a similar video yet, take a few minutes to really appreciate the man that is Dick Cheney. |

Hm.
I heard a social scientist being interviewed tonight who was talking about what it means to be a scientist. Question: should a social scientist be considered a scientist? |
